An alumnus of Eton College in the UK, and the University of Grenoble, he obtained the distinction of Master of Wine in 1976. <\/p>\n\n<p>After a long apprenticeship in the Bordeaux, Champagne and Burgundy regions, Anthony returned to London in 1970 as a fine wine buyer for Andr\u00e9 Simon Wines. In 1978, he was one of the founders of Haynes Hanson &amp; Clark, an independent company specializing in importing fine wines (mainly French) and distributing them to British consumers. He was Managing Director for over 12 years. Today, he remains the company&#8217;s principal purchasing consultant. He is also senior consultant for The Fine Wine Experience, a fine wine importer based in Hong Kong and Beijing.    <\/p>\n\n<p>Author of several publications, Anthony wrote the book &#8220;Burgundy&#8221; in 1982, the second edition of which, in 1995, received several awards. He has been a regular speaker at international conferences and Wine Judgings (Canberra, Sydney, Perth, Auckland, San Francisco, McMinnville Oregon, Bordeaux etc.). He has been a member of the Royal Household Wine Committee, and also of the Government Hospitality Wine Committee, with colleagues advising on wine purchases for Buckingham Palace and the British Government. Between 2005 and 2016 he was heavily involved in Christie&#8217;s organization of the Hospices de Beaune Wine Sale. In 1998-1999 he was Chairman of the Institute of Masters of Wine.
