Bruno Prats

An agricultural engineer, Bruno PRATS specialized in Viticulture at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique de Montpellier, where he studied under Professor Jean Branas and Pierre Galet.

In 1970, together with his mother and brothers, he took over control of Château Cos d'Estournel, which he ran until 1998, when his family decided to sell the estate.

In 1990, Bruno joined forces with Paul Pontallier, director of Château Margaux, and Chilean oenologist Felipe de Solminihac to create Viña Aquitania, an 18-hectare vineyard on the outskirts of Santiago.

In 1999, he joined forces with the Symington family to create Chryseia, vinified according to Bordeaux principles using Portuguese grape varieties from the Douro Valley.

In 2005, Bruno joined forces with Hubert de Bouard, and Lowell Jooste, owner of Klein Constantia, to create Anwilka, a Cabernet-Sauvignon - Syrah in Stellenbosch. In 2011, Anwilka merges with Klein Constantia.

In 2009, he teamed up with Bordeaux oenologist Stéphane Point to create Alfynal, a wine made from the Monastrell grape in Alicante, Spain.

Bruno Prats was President of the Conseil des Crus Classés du Médoc en 1855 for twenty-one years. He is a member of the Bordeaux Wine Academy and Honorary President of the International Wine Academy.
