Evangelos Gerovassiliou
Evangelos studied agronomy in Thessaloniki, then obtained his diploma in oenology and tasting certificates from the University of Bordeaux. In 1981, he initiated the renaissance of viticulture in his hometown of Epanomi. He built a small but ultra-modern winery there in 1986.
During his various training courses in a number of Bordeaux estates, he forged many friendships and also earned the respect of Émile Peynaud, one of his teachers, who has been credited with a major influence on Mr. Gerovassiliou's career.
In 1975, Monsieur Peynaud asked him to take the helm as vineyard manager and winemaker for the 1976 vintage at Domaine Carras. The professor then acted as an advisor to the Domaine. Mr. Gerovassiliou proved to be a highly competent administrator of this imposing estate, where he remained until early 1999.
In 1983, he founded his own vineyards in Epanomi.
In 2001, together with his best man Vasilis Tsaktsarlis, they set up the Ktima Biblia Chora estate in Pangeon.
Since then, the two oenologists have ventured into several wine regions in Greece and abroad, and now own 4 wineries.
He and his wife Sonia Tziola have three children who will carry on the tradition of winegrowing in the Epanomi region.
