Philosophy

Château Musar was founded in 1930 by Gaston N. Hochar.
Joined in 1959 by his eldest son Serge Hochar, he steered production towards today’s philosophy of producing wines as naturally as possible and with minimal interventionism, while studying oenology in Bordeaux with Emile Peynaud and Jean Ribereau-Gayon.
The company, managed by Serge Hochar with his brother Ronald, expanded internationally in the 80s and 90s.
Serge is named First ‘Decanter Man of the Year’ in 1984.
The company welcomed its first member of the 3rd generation in 1994, with Gaston, grandson of the founder and son of Serge, taking charge of production.
Gaston was joined in 2000 by his cousin Ralph and in 2010 by his brother Marc.
Today, he effectively runs the company under the chairmanship of his uncle Ronald after Serge’s departure in 2014.
