Hans Astrom

After a career in skiing and studies in economics, Hans did his military service in the Royal Swedish Navy.

He then joined the legendary Swedish restaurant group Tore Wretman restaurangeroperatingfrom the flagship The Opera Cellar, at Stockholm, as head sommelier for 5 years before joining the Grand Hotel for an ambitious new development and upgrade of the restaurant and beverage business.

During this period, Hans won the title of Sweden's Best Sommelier. He is one of the founders, and later president, of the Swedish Sommelier Association.

He then played a very active role as project manager, then head of the gastronomy and wine program at Sweden's first gastronomy university, Gryhytte akademien.

After Sweden, he spent 10 years as vice-president and director of Peter Lehmann Wines Ltd, an internationally renowned Australian listed company.

After the successful acquisition of Peter Lehmann Wines by the Swiss Hess Family wines group, Hans spent a further 10 years as Vice President and General Manager of Peter Lehmann Wines Ltd and some of the most successful wineries in the new world, in Australia, Argentina, South Africa and the USA.

In December 2011, he moved to South Africa as Managing Director, overseeing the unprecedented resurrection of the Cape Town region's iconic and celebrated Klein Constantia Estate vineyard.

In 2022, Hans returned to Switzerland and took on the role of Vice-Chairman of Klein Constantia Estate.
