Jean Louis Chave
Born in 1968, Jean-Louis Chave discovered his passion for wine later in life. Graduating with an MBA from the University of Hartford in 1991, he was initially drawn to finance before turning to oenology, obtaining his degree in 1992 from UC Davis. In 1993, he joined the family domaine, founded in 1481, and in 1996 launched the Jean-Louis Chave Sélection trading house.
He then undertook the recultivation of the historic Bachasson vineyard in Saint-Joseph, a task which lasted from 1995 to 2002. Jean-Louis also replanted the Chalaix hillsides and acquired Clos Florentin in 2009, with the ambition of producing wines comparable to the grands crus.
Carrying on the family heritage, he is committed to organic and biodynamic viticulture, and to the traditional skills of the vine. His vision integrates respect for the landscape and the preservation of authentic viticulture, both beautiful and harmonious for the land and the wine.
