Jean-Pierre Perrin

Born in Jonquières, Vaucluse, Jean-Pierre Perrin was immersed in the world of science from an early age. With a degree in physical, chemical and earth sciences from the University of Dijon, he went on to deepen his knowledge of oenology, a discipline that was to become his passion.

After completing his military service with the regiment du Train, Jean-Pierre Perrin put his skills to good use at prestigious wineries. His work at INRA Montfavet and the Station Oenologique de Beaune enabled him to acquire solid expertise in the field of winemaking.

In 1968, a decisive turning point in his career came when he joined Domaine de Beaucastel, a legendary Rhône estate. His arrival marked the beginning of a new era for this historic estate.

It was in 1971 that Jean-Pierre Perrin, always driven by a spirit of innovation, founded "La Vieille Ferme", a brand that was soon to become a staple of wines from the South of France. Keen to share his expertise with the world, in 2000 he and his American friend Robert Haas created the Tablas Creek Vineyard in California. This ambitious project transposed the Perrin family's know-how to American soil.

Alongside his brother François, Jean-Pierre Perrin co-chairs the Perrin family group, a group of wineries renowned for the quality of their wines. Together, they contribute to the worldwide renown of Rhône Valley wines.

Throughout his career, Jean-Pierre Perrin has been a true wine craftsman, passionate about the land, the grape and the transformation of this fruit into noble wine. His legacy lives on today, thanks to subsequent generations who perpetuate the values and know-how of the Perrin family.

Finally, Jean-Pierre Perrin is an eminent member of the Académie Internationale du Vin, having joined in 1978, served as Chancellor from 1997 to 2013, and then as President from 2021 to 2023.
