Originally from Portland, Josh Bergström is a veteran Oregon winemaker with over 25 vintages of experience producing wine in the Willamette Valley.
Over the course of his career, he has built a world-renowned family wine brand from the ground up and has consulted for eight different Oregon wine labels, producing wine from over 125 vineyards in the region. He is passionate about and deeply involved in all aspects of the Willamette Valley's winegrowing and winemaking communities.
Josh's university studies included French, business, business law and humanities before receiving a post-graduate diploma in viticulture and oenology at the renowned Lycée Viticole de Beaune in France. It was there that Josh met his wife Caroline, a native of Burgundy. They immediately fell in love, and together they traveled the villages of Burgundy. They returned to Oregon in the summer of 1999 to craft their family's first vintage together, and have been at the helm of Bergström Wines ever since.
From the beginning, Josh's vision for Bergström Wines has always been to produce America's finest Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and Syrahs while developing his family estate towards a 100% estate-grown approach. He and his growing team are the custodians of 70 acres of biodynamic monopoly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from five different vineyards in the AVAs (American Viticultural Areas) of the Dundee Hills, Ribbon Ridge and Chehalem Mountains, located north of the Willamette Valley.
Josh grows estate-grown Syrah on the Ribbon Ridge estate and sources fruit from six organically and sustainably farmed family vineyards in the Rogue, Umpqua and Columbia River Gorge AVAs. He is a champion of biodynamic, organic and regenerative farming practices and believes that these are essential to preserving the unique regional character of his sesterroirs and his wines.
Josh is the proud father of two young men, Batiste and Étienne, and a dachshund named Toulouse. In his spare time, Josh enjoys baking sourdough bread (with sourdoughs grown from Chardonnay lees), catching Dungeness crabs on the Oregon coast and foraging for local mushrooms in the Oregon Coast Range.
