Pierre-Marie Lledo

Professor Pierre-Marie Lledo is a French neurobiologist who heads the Neuroscience Department at the Institut Pasteur in Paris and the CNRS Genes and Consciousness Laboratory.

He conducts major research in the field of sensory perception, particularly smell. His work has contributed to a better understanding of the biological processes involved in learning, memory and the generation of emotions that drive our behavior.

His work has shown that olfactory memory is particularly powerful and long-lasting, which explains why certain smells can evoke vivid memories or emotions.

More recently, he and his team have highlighted the close link between the sense of smell and emotions, particularly pleasure. In oenology, this relationship between wine aromas and emotions influences the perception of wine quality and taste.

Finally, in addition to his research career, Pierre-Marie Lledo is also interested in disseminating science to the general public. He has published several books for a wide readership, on subjects ranging from the biology of the brain to the philosophy of science.
