Wojciech Bońkowski MW
Born in Warsaw in 1976, he completed his studies in Italian literature with a dissertation on the poetry of Eugenio Montale (2001), before going on to earn a doctorate in musicology on 19th-century editions of Chopin's works (2007, published in English by Peter Lang). He teaches at Warsaw University and is a researcher at the Fryderyk Chopin National Institute, where he has published Chopin gourmet, a trilingual book on Chopin's gastronomic tastes (2015).
At the same time, he developed a career as a wine taster and critic. He is founder and editor of the magazine Magazyn Wino (2002), the Guide Hachette des Vins d'Europe (2003, 2005, 2008), the online magazine Winicjatywa (2012) and the quarterly Ferment (2017). He also works with Meininger's Wine Business International and Timatkin.com. He is head of commission at the Decanter World Wine Awards and a member of the jury for 50 Great Greek Wines. In 2023, he became the first Pole to be awarded the Master of Wine degree.
