Wojciech Bońkowski MW
Born in 1976 in Warsaw, he completed his studies in Italian literature with a thesis on the poetry of Eugenio Montale (2001) and went on to earn a Ph.D. in musicology on 19th-century editions of Chopin’s works (2007, published in English by Peter Lang). He taught at the University of Warsaw and later served as a researcher at the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, where he published, among other works, *Chopin Gourmet*, a trilingual book on Chopin’s culinary tastes (2015).
At the same time, he pursued a career as a wine taster and critic. He is the founder and editor of the magazine *Magazyn Wino* (2002), the *Hachette Guide to European Wines* (2003, 2005, 2008), the online magazine Winicjatywa (2012), and the quarterly Ferment (2017). He contributes to publications such as Meininger’s Wine Business International and Timatkin.com. He serves as a panel chair for the Decanter World Wine Awards and is a jury member for 50 Great Greek Wines. In 2023, he became the first Pole to earn the Master of Wine designation.
